I was recently lucky enough to receive some burley cubes (Sterling Double Eagle), and after staring blankly at them for a couple of days, wondering what the hell to do, I loaded up my briar (gravity), and gave them a go. Wow! Great smoke, wonderful flavours, very good pipe.

Well, damn, I think to myself, I could smoke these all day. Sadly, however, I am currently lacking in briar, with most of my stable consisting of cobs. I am somewhat loathe to trickle these cubes down into the nether-regions under the stem of the cob, never mind the massive draft-hole, perfect for sucking up large numbers of little pellets of burning burley. At the same time, however, burley (to me) always tastes just a little better in the cob (nuttyness just seems to pop for me).
Anyone have any experience with a cube/cob combo, or at least an idea how to make it enjoyable?

I struggle with the Double Eagle plug cut right out of the pouch due to it's moisture content. I've had luck with a Double Eagle/Prince Albert mix - in briar or cob. In fact if I don't let the DE dry for a long time it almost needs the PA to soak up the plug cuts juice and keep it from getting into a big carmelized ashy ball. If I smoke the DE right from the pouch I will inevitably end up with a table full of dirty pipe cleaners and my mouth full of ash(after the literal ton of dottle sticks to the unsmoked cubes and grows like a snowball going downhill). It's still an out-of-this-world burley. I just need some more time with it.
