The John Bull designations were most commonly associated with early era 999's, like this Shamrock

Yeah, John Bulls were chubbier than current 999's. In that article, he doesn't mention the John Bull showed up in the Dublin and London line which is what I have.

Annnnd, according to Bill Burney, whoever that is, ALL of them are Bulldogs. :)

I'm currently trying to get my pipes down to a single 7-day rotation, but a grail I'm working towards is a Balleby bulldog. I love the unique "upside down" proportions and he often does a thicker, wide diamond shank.

Sorry about the unrelated question but talking of bulldogs reminded me to ask If you remember which member had a bend silver bulldog Dunhill. I remember seeing it on a post but for the life of me I can’t find it anymore…

Could never find love for either. They just look too machined for me.
Interesting phrase….. “too machined”…. I do think it is an apt term. For me…. The “machined” precision is what gives the pipe (any type of machined pipe) a “traditional” look…. which I tend to prefer over freehands.
