Even though the Peretti isn't tinned, it's at least as expensive as the tinned burley flakes from Cornell and Diehl. Burley Flake #2 is one of my absolute favorites -- it's got a little Virginia in it (just a touch), but the result is bold, nutty burley flavor. Burley Flake #1 is good, too, if you like dark burley -- I don't especially like it, but it's good if dark burley is your thing. Burley Flake #3 might do the trick for you -- it's a little too sour for my tastes. In any case, #2 is one of the purest burleys out there outside of plain burley for blending.
I know this is a thread about flakes, but I recently tried the Cube Cut Burley from Cornell and Diehl (in bulk) and it's fantastic. I'm not sure there's any VA in it at all, maybe a smidge, but it gives pure, nutty burley flavor with little or no casing (unlike some other cube cut burleys). Easy as hell to pack, too.
