Hi,

It's been a long time since I've posted here. Glad to be back. I came across this unusual pipe from Brebbia on Al Pascia's site. It has a retractable wind cap. I've never seen this before and find it to be a very interesting concept. It's also 9mm filtered, a must for me. Does anyone have any first hand knowledge or others with a similar concept. Will it be a PITA to clean?

Thanks

Cool pipe. My only concern is if f something goes south on the cap its not easy to replace. Typically the company knows what its doing

I have a 1996 Brebbia SIPIL Selection Pura Billiard with .925 Silver Ring and Cap (Two Star grade) that looks very similar to what you’ve posted:

I generally don’t smoke outdoors with my nicer pipes (although, I did do that the other day because I watched some of the UFC PPV on the porch), so I have not really used the wind cap on this pipe—I’ve only smoked the Brebbia indoors. I purchased it as an estate, and the previous owner did use the wind cap. The thin silver disc will blacken from the smoke and heat and I would recommend you clean it after each use, because the carbon build up won’t come off easily if you let it accumulate. The disc is also thin and may curve and bend, so be mindful of any pressure you may exert when cleaning it.

I don’t have a Brebbia windcap.
But have 3 Barlings with wind caps.
Which would look great tooling down a country lane in a roadster, motoring goggles on and wind in hair.
Sadly I don’t have a roadster. Nor hair.

I rarely smoke other than sitting down.
And I’m not a fan of “lunting“ - neither the word nor the practice.

The silver caps can get rather too hot to handle.
And as Jeff (@TheIronMonkey) said, the underside of cap gets black and is a PITA to keep pristine.

In short, it’s more about the look, rather than the practicality 😏

No pain at all. The manservant will see to the silver!

Now that I see it on a bigger screen the cut for the slot is pretty jagged too. they really could have finished that out nicer.

As an outdoor-only smoker, I do like the idea of this thing. I wish there was an easier way to add a flip-up wind cap to regular pipes -- the spring-loaded doohickeys help, but I hate how fiddly they are to use.
