More Big News!!!! How does a tour by Mark Ryan to his Perique Factory sound? You will get to see how Perique is processed and barreled, tour this historic facility, and touch and smell the actual leaves. What if it also included a tasting of some special D&R pipe tobacco? What if I said we will also have an opportunity to do our own custom blending, guided by Mr Mark Ryan himself and have a great southern style lunch to finish it off? Sound fun??? Well, on Friday, Oct 2nd from 9-3 that's exactly what we will be doing to "Kick-Off" the 2015 New Orleans Pipe Show!!!
So plan to come in early!!! There will be limited space on this tour!!! Registration for the tour will be done through our website at www.nolapipeshow.com. The site should be online in the next couple of weeks. We have 55 available spots for the tour, it will be on a first come basis. Once it fills up, I will start a waiting list for a possible 2nd grouping. Cost for this exciting outing will be $35.

Yes I have contracted with a Tour bus company for the ride there and back...it's right at a 1 hour ride from the casino. There will definitely be iced cold new orleans beverages for the bus ride....sadly none of the tour bus companies allow smoking on their buses.... :( But we will get lots of smoking in once we arrive at the Factory....ok between you and cosmic...we are down to 53 lol :)
BTW I had some of the best chicken and sausage gumbo today, along with some amazing butter beans and a side of fried catfish when I spent the day with Mark Ryan today working out the details...Mmmm great tobacco and great home cooked Southern food shared with 55 pipe smoking brothers...like the Mastercard commercial says...Priceless

Excellent creativity. This is how "management" is supposed to function. I hope you will be in contact with Rick Newcombe who has excellent contacts in the Danish pipe establishment. Those folks have no idea what NO is about. Restaurant and entertainment guides would be very helpful, too.
BTW ... for the bus ride, I am assuming there will be a bus for the journey will we be allowed some of NoLa's finest on the bus like some Abita Amber or maybe some NOLA Blond or Brown or possibly a bottle of Old New Orleans Amber rum??? Just thought I would ask.
Also there will be smoking aloud on the bus for sure right? Once again just thought I would ask.
Sounds like a great day ... can ya puts me on the list before registration opens. If'n ya can lets just say now that there will only be 54 available spots now open.
Sounds like some of you uptight people need a trip to New Orleans pretty bad!!!

Toby, put me down for the trip to the Perique plantation. I won't need the bus as I will be driving through St James Parish. I'm going to be staying in the Warehouse District and walking over to the show on Saturday.
Drago's Friday night?

i have a list going and anyone that's asked, is on my list. That being said, anyone going on the tour, whether on my list or not, must still officially register once the site is active. There will be a BIG announcement as soon as the site goes live, in addition to little tidbits that we are keeping as a surprise

@Newbie, there is no way I can go to NOLA and not have lunch at Parkway Tavern & Bakery on that Saturday. The place is an institution with locals. Make that one large sloppy roast beef po-boy, dressed! May have to do Drago's Saturday night

I'm sorry but anyplace that has moved and is under new management to me cannot be considered "Old School" and needs to basically start all over again from the bottom. If they are good they will quickly climb from the denizens of the bottom but will be a long time till they reach the "Old School" category or sit atop the established places after starting over again under new management in a totally different location.
But if ya wants Johnie and Frankies than by all means be sure you get enough for everyone???
Nope I didn't realize they had moved and changed hands so I will prolly just stick to and Oyster bar some where off the beaten path and find me a good hot sausage po'boy for dinner.. I'm thinking oysters and Glenlivet.

Excuse a comment from a non-gourmet, but if the chef and cooks are the same at the new location, wouldn't the food be just as good? Why not follow the reviews from now to September? Would you experienced guys allow some of us strangers to tag along with you for the gastronomic delights?
This place was kind of like a "Cheers" kind of joint. It was in this neighborhood area just looked like an old house or something. When the atmosphere changes in a place that's a local intuition it really kid of kills 1/2 the vibe.
And I can't speak for everyone who knows the NOLA area but yea you're welcome to tag along. I love New Orleans for the food as much as the music and people.

Guys we may have to turn this into a week long party...here's my proposed agenda....wake up, smoke a bowl, coffee, smoke a bowl, breakfast, smoke a few bowls, lunch, nap, more bowls, dinner, bowls, drinks, bowls....and just repeat this until we hit every restaurant possible...
Here is one of my favorite French Quarter restaurant for breakfast...the best coffee in the city, if not the world, and scrambled eggs and boudin sausage that is better than my grandmother could make..God rest her soul and may her ghost please not haunt me for stating the truth
