Bowl Insert Repair

Does anyone have a lead on who can repair this bowl?

Mike at Walker advised no, Steve said he’s not taking on work. I’m waiting to hear back from briarville.

I’m thinking someone skilled with briar dust? It’s more cosmetic.

if not, does anyone have a lead on a meerschaum carver who could make the insert out of meerschaum? Shouldn’t be too bad if you have a lathe, measure the thread pitch and have decades of experience.

My opinion. Get a donor pipe. Make your own briar dust, then get some super glue.

file and sand then stain with furniture stain.

Since you mentioned Steve (Rebornpipes) I’d just do what he does. I’ve done it on several pipes. It’s not that crazy complicated.

Otherwise it’s going to get expensive fast.

I would be stunned if you could find a one off Meer cup that cheap. But I’m not a Meer carver who lives in Turkey and had to apprentice for at least five years.

The ratio of briar dust to super glue is non existent. Put down a thin coat of super glue. Put the briar dust on (the finer the briar dust the better) the wet super glue. Let it dry. Lather rinse repeat.

That's a good call. That spot is in a "high traffic area" and to get the lip (raised area) just right is going to be challenging for anyone!
