A gurgling pipe is annoying. When the smokes wetter, I would gently clockwise twist and pull the pipe stem out, then blow moisture out of the stem. It makes the pipe stop gurgling and keeps the smoke dry.
I think the moisture in pipe stem is most likely the saliva. It gets into the stem when we puff and blow back into the pipe.
I wouldn't worry about the moisture in bottom of the bowl. 'Cause it would be vaporized by the burning tobacco.
I tried both my ordinary pipes and spigot pipes. It all works fine.
