Not really sure what to say..new to this off and on..only piping inside the house but 2 weeks ago ventured out to the porch, only to have the neighbors say that guy is smoking a pipe....oh he thinks he is so cool..and the girlfriend say oh I know..not in a good way,but just kept on puffing cause I wanted to...guess this is for me
Don't let other people discourage you if it is something you enjoy just keep doing it and welcome from Missouri.
Well if the neighbors and your girlfriend thought you were smoking because you think you are cool, that may be a good thing.
At one point my late wife, put out with me about something, advised me, "You know you are no Adonis." She was usually much kinder than that, but I guess she was irked. Rather than be chastened, I was thrilled to think that she thought I had such a high opinion of myself, since my whole life I have been oppressed with Midwestern modesty, and don't think much of myself even when I've done well.
So smoke on. They may actually think you are ... so cool.

I will say you do occasionally get the people that think you're doing it as an affectation, but more often you'll get compliments and people who don't tell you that you think you're cool but that it is cool. Also sounds like your neighbors are a little lame. I could just be projecting the people who've told me stuff like you think you're cool smoking a pipe. People who wish they could be cool, which is literally one of the least cool things you can do.
Pardon my insolence, but if you are new to this, how do you know that this shop is really great?
Oh, and ignore the neighbors. Save your pennies and move out of town.
