I stack the cans in the cupboards I use as a cellar until I open them, and then I jar them once open as I rotate through many different tobaccos and can’t smoke through a big can before it dries out. If I were to smoke it at a pace where I could finish it in a month I’d skip the jar.

If the tub is a John Middleton tub like PA & CH come in, I just leave the tobacco in the tub because Middleton tubs seal pretty good for storage. I keep the tubs on my bookshelf in my den where there is no direct sunlight. If the tub has only a plastic lid like SWR, Granger & Half & Half, I'll jar the contents or transfer them to empty Middleton tubs I have saved.

Okay, this is a confession and a heresy. I keep the tobacco in its tub, and so far, this has not caused it to degrade. It remains smokable and good. If I had a tub I seldom smoked, I'd jar it, but most tub tobacco remains in rotation. My disclaimer is that central North Carolina is humid, not sultry like our neighbors to the south, but definitely humid. I think this maintains tub tobacco sufficiently well.

I have Carter Hall in a ceramic jar I keep on my pipe cabinet. I also have it in mason jars in the cellar, in open tubs in my cabinet, and In unopened tubs in both areas.
