Might be able to use it on a stem that doesn't fit right.
Bees wax is what you wax meerschaum pipes with. It’s to soft for briar pipes.
Bees wax makes meerschaums sort of a baby shit yellow color. Manufacturers a variety of coatings. Proper meers, in my opinion, are hard coated, pure white when purchased, and the coating doesn't soften as bees wax does when heated.
I use beeswax to polish briar pipes, after I’ve oiled them with grapeseed oil.
It doesn’t last long, but beeswax is cheap, and so pure you can eat it.
When the briar is hot, stick the beeswax on the pipe and use it like a

Then buff with a soft rag.

Funny thing about that is that bees wax can help with both a tight fitting stem and a loose one.
My briar and stem polish is bees wax and carnauba wax.
Just melt the two together under a low heat.

Yes you can, this is exactly what I use it for all the time, works great.
Get it by the bar, and rub a small amount on the stem. This is the stuff I use.

It is funny how that works for both.
I'm glad it works for @Briar Lee as a polish, but, I find it much too soft for using on the stummel.
Most meerschaum producers use refined white beeswax but they all have it.
Indeed but. the additives, usually "private" recipes, make a marked difference in the hardness. What is used, to my understanding is simply to keep the tobacco residues from bleeding/leeching completely through the pipe to the outer surface. At least that was the explanation a rep gave me. I've never worn off an original coating.
Nor have I. Carvers today will tell you it's there's to prevent scratches on the material. There's so much soaked into a pipe it never needs to be reapplied.

James Upshall was the name of the particular line of pipes, Tilshead was the name of the pipe company, i.e. Tilshead Pipe Company.
As the name suggests you wax bees with it. A tad tricky I might add and it depends on what type of waxing the bee would like.
