Chris Kelly of Eldritch Pipes is well known for his more avant-garde work but he can also make a gorgeous traditional style pipe, although still with his unique signature touch.

This is not mine but I just thought it was a beautiful pipe and wanted to share the pics with you guys.

You can call that an author or an oom Paul.
Regardless of whether or not you like it, it ain’t either.

I believe that’s what the maker called it. I got the pics directly from him.

What would you call it?
Like @Chasing Embers said, maybe a bent apple?
I’m not knocking the guy, I don’t know him or his work, but most shapes have rules, and lots of times “interpretation” means they can’t quite get it right, regardless of how nice the finished product looks.
Lots of people don’t care, and that’s cool, but I’m a dick like that.

Grats on getting a smooth from him its beautiful, I had to wait 11 months for a slender man.
Yeah. It ain’t mine. Nice tho. The pipe I commissioned from him will be up to bat in July. While he is well known for his wilder pipes, I wanted to show off his more traditional stuff.

No worries! I am a stickler about certain things too! I just wanted to know what you thought it was.

Some of the pipe shapes still seem kinda blurry to me. The line between a Devil Anse vs Cutty or Dublin versus a Zulu kinda gets fuzzy depending on who makes it. At least to my novice eyes.

Out of curiosity what makes it not an author to you, the shank not thick enough? Most pipe shape listings (Smokingpipes and the Briary for example) that I've seen say an author is a large ¼ bent apple, except for one that says it is a fat prince.
