I have an auntie that is from London and will be there for about a month in the near future. I've been thinking of giving her a mission to pick up some native baccy that is fairly difficult to obtain here; thinking Esoterica & SG. However, I don't know if it's actually easier to get there, and if so would the eruo taxes negate the advantage of having a special agent auntie on the other side of the pond. I also don't want her to get nabbed by the bobbies with a suitcase full of unclaimed baccy on her way back (although it my be worth it). Thoughts?

Quantity is a consideration. If it looks like she might be carrying enough to sell at a profit, it might be a problem. Also, how mobile is your aunt? You don't want to send her all over town if she's elderly. Also weight could be a problem. If it's easy for her to purchase, and it's not too many tins, it could be fine.

If you keep her 'mission' reasonably conservative , it's just a matter of customs claims (keep it within the claims limit). That said, they may consider tobacco a food or agricultural product, which dear old Auntie would be obliged to claim, lest she actually be considered legally a smuggler if she lies about that question. How much do you like this aunt? haha

How much do you like this aunt? haha. Seriously, if you asked her to pick up a _little_ bit, I'd imagine that would go just fine (assuming she's not specifically asked about tobacco in _any_ amount). Just saying you might be asking Auntie to lie to the authorities if such things are asked.

Check out the online UK tobacconists listed in this thread, and get anything sent to your auntie.

You’re looking at around $20-25usd per 50g (bulk or tin).

Another option to consider is synjeco, but that would require you being comfortable getting mail order tobacco from overseas.

SG & GH will be a doddle. Germains on the other hand... Been waiting for a Brown Flake drop for around six months.

Cgars does have some bulk of their other stuff at the minute though, not sure how long that'll last.

G'day and welcome to the forum.

Have your aunt post the baccy to you. Declare it as 'hobby supplies' [which it is]

I'd recommend posting in packages no bigger than six tins or 1lb bags.

Since the scamdemic, it's not ever been easier to get baccy through Customs here in Oz [I got over a dozen orders through over the last year before one was intercepted]
AFAIK, unlike Nanny State Australia, it's not illegal to post tobacco to the U.S.

How old is your auntie? Is she spry enough for the mission?

If my four aunties were still alive, they'd all be in their 90's and I don't think I'd send them on a mission to bring me back tobacco.

Let us know how it turns out.
True, she a spry and mobile 80 y/o. She was a flight attendant until she retired and has been traveling nonstop ever since. I'm not trying to send here too far out of the way. Thinking/hoping there are some good B&Ms near her place.

I hear ya. She's super mobile, but I'm not trying to load her down. I don't really have the funds even if I wanted to. Maybe just a pound or two or three. I don't know if that would look suspicious at customs though.

I think she's worth keeping around;) Starting to feel like I might need to become a part-time lawyer to figure this out. Anything for the special baccy, right?

Nice! Thanks for the list. Price doesn't sound too horrible.

Germains Rich Dark Flake. You can't get Stonehaven or Penzance there but RDF is very, very similar to Stonehaven. I don't know why you'd pay more for SG there unless you find the Full Virginia, Best Brown or Saint James in the Plug form. You can get the other here when it is released.
Good call on the Germain's RDF

If you’re happy paying $10/oz I’d seriously look at synjeco or estervals (if they still ship). It’s about 1/2 price. Yes you would need to factor in shipping costs on top of that, and the potential of it going missing but it sounds like you would be doing that anyway unless your auntie is only going to bring a handful of tins. If that’s the case, screw the cost and go with the least stressful option for all involved
