So recently I ordered this pipe off of a site that provides unfinished pipes that are smokable. I loved the look of this pipe and purchased it. Upon arrival it had a crack that goes all the way inside the bowl. I contacted the site and they were apologetic and unaware of the issue. They offered to send me a new one or refund me. All good no harm and no foul! But I still love the look of this pipe and was wondering if you guys think a good bit of pipe mud might render this beauty smokable ?

PS. That's my two year old daughters hands holding the flashlight because she wanted to help. In case you were wondering why I had alarmingly small hands.

A likely story

Yes, you could mud the inside and use wood filler on the outside. It’s a natural void in the briar.

Haha, I chuckled.

As to your question, I don't think that's a crack (which would be a concern) -- as was suggested above, it looks like a natural gap, which may be no big deal.

I'd plug the internal gap with fireplace mortar.
^^^^^
It depends on how much effort you want to put in.
If you have the time and like fiddling -
Plug the internal gap with fireplace mortar

I'd overlay that with pipe mud (to encourage a protective layer of cake)

briar dust and superglue mixed
^^^^^
Then this for the external crevice.

Probably a bit of overkill but I'm a bit OCD 😄

Honestly, if you want a smokeable pipe more than you want to learn about pipe repair, I’d send it back.
They offered to send me another while I can still keep this one.
I'd send it back.
They said no need to send back they will just send another.

Also thank you for the advice everyone !!

So I guess if it's a natural void there's less chance of a true "burnout" that's interesting and makes sense
