Ashton Wanna-Be

Yeah it looks a little like an Ashton pipe, and for all I know might be just as good! Oh wait, it's made in France, so probably not even close. Stamped Wessex, Hand Made, France with Hand Cut on the cumberland stem. I guess that Wessex pipes have been made by a few pipe makers over the years, but this one is supposed to be made by Chacom, and doesn't look too shabby! Needed a good cleaning, a little gunk removal from the top of the bowl, de-oxidizing of the stem, and some waxing. I've had this cleaned up for a few days, but haven't smoked it yet. Probably decide on which tobacco tonight. (no Wessex tobacco open, so I can't indulge my OCD) This is the first Wessex pipe I've ever had, and the first Lumberman shape too.

Chacom makes a good pipe. All French brands are above their price point in quality, I'd say. The French introduced briar as the major pipe material, and they are proud of their products and competitive with each other. Most of the classic English pipe shapes and designs were picked up from French makers, I believe.

I have a Chacom Havane Bulldog with a brindle hand cut stem that has the same stamping. I’d say it’s a Chacom product. ?

Ya know, I usually do this very thing for reasons I can't figure out, other than I have some OCD issues. But not wanting to open a tin when I have a lot open already. So... I went with something I haven't smoked in a while, Black Pepper by Vauen. I really like it, but not as a regular smoke.

I’ve had four pipes in that line. Still have a panel billiard. Very excellent in my opinion.

It’s my favorite game/checklist. I have done a bunch of these. However, I only do them occasionally to check the list off.

1. Dunhill in a Dunhill
2. Savinelli in a Savinelli
3. Macbaren in a Macbaren
4. Amphora in an Amphora
5. Waiting to do Peterson in a Peterson. I have both pipe and tobacco, but not done yet
6.Waiting to do Sasieni in a Sasieni. have both tobacco and the pipe
7. Waiting to do Comoy’s in a Comoy’s. I have both tobacco and the pipe
8. Waiting to do Chacon in a Chacom. Only have the tobacco. No pipe yet

Rest are harder.

Dang it! Now I've started thinking about this tobacco thing and I'm staring at a tin of Campaign Dark Flake. Fortunately I looked at the blends I have open and came across a jar of Gold Brick I had forgotten about. Ok! Next bowl will be Gold Brick.
One more for you cshubhra, Orlik in an Orlik. This was the first of my road down this craziness.

It’s definitely the original stem. Every pipe in this line has a stem like that. It’s an interesting run of pipes. All of mine have been excellent.
