I have officially decided aromatics is just not for me. Congrats to those who enjoy them. I have made this decision several times before but then get pulled in again. Maybe I watch video about how one aromatic is the best seller, or another really tastes like its flavor profile, or the new one in the block called banana nut bread is gods gift to pipe smokers. I just have to accept that a chemical is used in all of them that I distinctly taste. For me it’s like putting bug spray in maple syrup or chocolate pudding. I cant get past it and sometimes it bites my tongue. No matter if I dry it out 24 hours it’s the same. So officially, today, after 4 years of pipe smoking, I have accepted no matter how delicious an aromatic sounds its just not for me. For those who can smoke them enjoy, live long, and prosper.

I am still confused by the term aromatic.
The term is generally applied to blends with a significant amount of a flavored topping, such as vanilla or cherry, such that it is distinctly recognizable.

There are also semi-aromatics, where the flavored topping is less dominant though still quite present.

Almost all blends have some amount of flavorings, just in moderation so as to avoid sublimating the tobaccos.

I think I remember that you like Bald Headed Teacher. I do too. How would you classify it?

As most have heard, I recently began trying some aromatics. I'll never give up on the "non" aromatics, but so far I've found a few good ones.
For me it's just a change of pace for awhile. If any of them stick, I'll keep smoking them.
I have yet to find an aromatic from WO Larsen that isn't great. MacBaren Black Ambrosia is good. Cult BRM is good. C&D Autumn Evening is ok, and their Nutty Irishman is creeping up on me. Last month I threatened violence on the sadistic monster who made a blend called Nutty Irishman, then flavored it with a popular Italian liquor when there are a bunch of tasty Irish liquors.
Maybe that's why the Irishman is nutty.

We are birds of a feather for sure. I can't do aromatics, never have found one I like, tried for years, it's always the same as you describe. But I feel absolutely no loss whatsoever given the surfeit of beautiful baccies out there.

I’ve got a few (Lane/Sutliff) around from when I started out, but they’ve been “mixed” to my liking. I’ll smoke one of these mixtures every blue moon, but that’s it for “American” aros for me.
When it comes to flavored quality tobacco, such as SG Firedance Flake or Dan Devil’s Holiday, I can abide those more frequently.
