Well the founder of the company started producing cobs in the late 1800's and changed the name to Missouri Meerschaum in something like 1906 or 1907 (I don't remember) so they've probably changed labels a few times over the years. The changing of labels is just a guess on my part.maybe they just used the old style sticker for that one.
I think the yellow stickers are used on cobs with a hardwood insert and the other type of stickers are used on cobs without the hardwood insert.I grabbed two MM Cobs online for $10 a piece and they have different labels. Can someone tell me if I grabbed a knock off and if so which one is real?
The red sticker doesn’t have the hardwood insert. Thank you for the knowledge! For $10 it’s worth trying both but curious what is the difference of having the hardwood plug vs not having one? I could only guess lifespan.I think the yellow stickers are used on cobs with a hardwood insert and the other type of stickers are used on cobs without the hardwood insert.
No problem. I think it is supposed to increase the lifespan by reducing the potential for burnouts. The red sticker doesn’t have the hardwood insert. Thank you for the knowledge! According to aristocob, the hardwood plugs are used, when during manufacture, it's discovered that an otherwise perfectly good cob, is a little bit too pithy in the core.No problem. I think it is supposed to increase the lifespan by reducing the potential for burnouts.
