Just wanted to share a vintage Vauen I recently finished. 1930's era best I can gather, horn stem with brass ring. Interesting, most Vauens are 9mm filter pipes, this doesn't even fit a 6mm filter. Anyway, beautiful pipe. Wish the horn stem had more cream color in it!

Very nicely preserved pipe! Vauen may not have the most precious name in pipe history but I believe that qualitywise they are still as good as it gets.

Vintage Vauen people, can you tell me if Vauen ever made Danish-looking freehands? I have a Thompson Cigar Co. (est. 1915) in Tampa, formerly Key West, house pipe that is stamped West Germany, and I am wondering if by any chance this was sourced from Vauen. Is the Vauen workshop in the area that would have been in West Germany? Has anyone ever seen a 1960's or 1970's vintage Vauen in the Danish freehand shape? This pipe has no filter, and I have just had the P-Lip over-oxidizing stem replaced with an acrylic tortoise shell which makes it look great.

VAUEN is (and was) located in Nuremberg and is short for "Vereinigte Pfeifenfabriken Nürnberg". The "West Germany" designation was used when there was still an Eastern Germany, or GDR. Nuremberg is located more in the southern part of Germany. I don´t know if they ever made freehands but I am pretty sure that they have ventured into every conceivable shape known to mankind in their long history.

hi all, how does one date a VAUEN pipe anyway? piped.org has a long article about the brand, but no dating information...
