Title edited. Please read Rule9.

I have a batch of tobacco that has a heavy metallic chemical taste.
I'm pretty sure its pg or some kind of humectant as it doesnt really go dry.

The taste is heavy enough that Its not really worth smoking.
I was curious if anyone has every tried getting rid of this taste?

PG is water soluble, so I was thinking it could be possible to rinse if off, then dry the tobacco maybe in an oven.
Im sure it would wash away good attributes too, but as I've said its un-smokable with this taste anyway ,so it would be worth a shot.
Has anyone tried anything similar?
Ive see a lot of people complain about this taste here, so id be surprised if some of you havent any method of dealing with this, apart from just dumping the batch.

Put it in a mason jar for about 6000 years and buy some different / better tobacco to smoke while you wait for the chemical taste to fade. Please post back on your results, we’ll be eagerly awaiting the update!

Metallic taste is something else. PG isn't metallic as far as I know from vaping that stuff for awhile. Go to a junk yard and run the blend under that huge electromagnet. I don't think that would help, but would be a great science project.

I have neve specifically tasted PG. From all accounts it is tasteless, but that doesn't mean in can't screw up your reaction to it.

In the summer of 2012 I had been smoking a pipe since 1998 or so and I had never tried an aromatic, don't ask me why as I love sweet stuff and have a wicked sweet tooth. So I buy a bunch of different Boswells aromatics and really enjoyed the flavors believe it or not, the only problem was it dried the shit out of my mouth. No other blend in my cellar did this so I had to chalk it up to the PG in the aromatics.

I tried Biotene and that didn't do anything. I tried different drinks while smoking, tea, coffee, soda, water. It was like some kind of freak show as I couldn't understand how my mouth go so freaking dry. I am talking Sahara dessert dry(yes I have been to the Sahara).. I finally just gave up and gave a way a nice sampler to some one I forget and they had no issue with the dryness. I figured it was must my screwed up chemical system that didn't allow me to smoke red Virginias either. I run a wicked high uric acid level and I am in stage 4 kidney disease. I am just lucky all my favorites are doing great.

So after all that blathering it could be just as simple as your system doesn't agree with it and it is time to move on. I did find 2 aro's that did not dry my mouth, Cult Blood Red Moon and Sutliff Molto Dolce. I only smoke them in mixed company.

lifes too short to be wasting time trying to fix poor tobacco when so many good ones are available.
yeah i get your point, i just bought a good amount so i feel its worth trying to save. might as well try rinsing it and see if it improves

Interesting, I have found it less tolerable over time. Im not sure if its pg taste or not basicly tastes like a sour chemical taste, could be anything i guess. i haven't noticed any dry mouth. I actually liked this blend so i bought a bunch when i saw it was cheaper abroad, not sure if its a different recipe overseas or not but its pretty bad. Im open to your point it could just be my taste buds. Still, i have a bunch of it so i feel its worth trying to improve it so its not a total waste of money. might try rinsing it and see if that does anything. sorry to hear about your health btw hope your situation improves

It is time to begin smoking this stuff in every different pipe you have and try to get a really nice combo. For some reason one blend smokes great in one pipe but smokes like crap in another. I have no idea why that happens unless you are not cleaning your pipes to within an inch of its life. That is a huge deal.

Well that pretty much sucks. Time to say good bye to aros and go for different blends.

I smoke only flakes and plugs. Here is a list of available ones, no unobtanium.
Capstan Blue Flake
Peterson Flake
Peterson Navy Rolls
Peterson Irish Flake
Peterson University Flake
Mac Baren Old Dark Fired

Learn how to smoke flakes and do your homework. I recommend cube cutting first then once you are comfortable with that try some fold and stuffs.

When you burn sugars, they smell horrible, like a chemical. Aros aren't known to be treats on your tongues, as much as pleasures to your nose. The word aromatic, is smell specific. It could just be that your trying to taste something that is meant to be more enjoyed to the olfactory senses. Your tastebuds are crude and just give you simple, salty, sweet, sour, etc... and it is your nose that separates lemon tastes from lime, for example. Without smell, they taste the exact same.
Smells then translate into our brains as taste. But, on most aromatics, the burning sugars just don't taste sweet, or even smell sweet. This is part of the problem with cherry. Things flavored with natural cherries just don't taste good, and this is why most desserts and candies either rely on artificial cherry or tons of sugars. Adding sugar to pipe tobacco, ehhh.

Ok, now that I have said that sugar doesn't taste sweet... I am going to flip that and suggest that you try smoking slower. Smoke as if you are trying to keep the fire on the edge of going out. If you have to relight, don't fret. just try it. Also, when you do get a wiff of something you like, resist the urge to puff harder. The hotter the fire, the less you taste/smell.

I just don't buy that PG has a taste. I think something bigger is going on here. Aromatics really aren't for beginners. It takes more skills to smoke them, because they are so finicky, and those sugars can be very tricky to smoke.

No need to make such a hasty decision. You may not like them; that's fine, but there are many good aromatic blends out there, and no shortage of people who enjoy them.

For quality aromatics, I suggest checking out The Country Squire.

Cigrmaster loves aros, and says so in his post, that obviously you didn't read in entirety. Maybe don't be so quick to judge?

at least, don't judge him on that. There are many many many other reasons to think he is a jerk, ha ha.

Hmm... I have some PG solution, that I never used, from when I first got into smoking. For science, I could take a shotglass, fill it up, and see if it tastes like anything. I expect it to taste like water, but who knows.

But to the point of chemical taste in tobacco, of the aros that i have tried only one has had a chemical taste: Sutliff Blue Note. got through a quarter of a bowl, and then threw out the rest. Tried it the same after a few weeks, and no change. I hope i threw out the rest, because it came from an order from P&C. It only had a label that had a series of letters and numbers, not the usual name of what the tobacco was. Never want to smoke that again.20221005_142540.jpg

We all have found tobaccos that we just don't connect with. Jeesh, I have dozens that disgust me. The thing about subjective stuff like this, is that someone is going to love whatever it is that we hate. Sorta like you'd think that if we all agreed on what beauty and ugly is, that ugly would be bred out of the gene pool. But, for everyone that you think is ugly, someone thinks that they are beautiful. And, for every bowl of Mixture 79 I have gagged over, some joker out there would love to smoke.
