I just won this last week on Tinbids, I was quite surprised, as I was the only one that bidded on it. I know this is certainly not a major Unicorn, but, I thought by this tin, it was before the 70s. I don’t know the truth in this, but I read that the UPC code, added to the side of the tin was in 1975.

This tin has no UPC code.

I’ve been wondering if i should leave it sealed, I did buy it to smoke, but it does seems to be a tin of 50 or more years. hmm 🤔

Anyone here, have any idea of what year this tin might be?

These are the pics taken from Tinbids.

The ZIP code was added in 1963. Around 1964 or so, the weight listed was changed from 1 5/8 oz. to 11/2 oz. As you mentioned, the bar code appeared around 1975, so the best you could date this is 1964–1974.

I, personally, would leave it sealed—it's rarer as such, and I doubt the flavour would be earth shattering if you smoked it—you'd be better off smoking a new batch.

If it’s anything like the ancient velvet experiment, it’s going to taste like an old library book!

According to the Smithsonian Magazine, it was 1974 for the UPC code.

Well, I’ll probably keep it sealed, don’t need to smoke old library paper... LOL

Just wasn’t sure if there was such a thing as nicer vintage year/taste to these.

I still need to make a WTB post here, to see if i can get one pouch, really hard to find just a pouch online, but lots of big tins everywhere.

If @Ahi Ka was the actual seller, it sounds like you've got new, fresh, Prince Albert in your old can.
haha now that I can’t justify buying tobacco in NZ I take out my frustration by sabotaging unicorn auctions…

@PipeIT preserve the package intact if you want to for historical or sentimental reasons. However, burley was made to be smoked. I think given the it’s tinned and not in a cardboard box, from the 60s and not the 30s, and PA and not CH, you should be sweet.

(Or just trade it on here with an Prince enthusiast for some codger samples)

Well it doesn’t look like anyone was sabotaging the Prince... LOL 😆

Now I was the one who also snagged the Irish Condor, and who knows, there could of been foul play a foot there LOL 😂
