So does anybody here play Go? It occurs to me that it'd go as well with pipe smoking as Chess would.
Haven't got a clue what I'm talking about? See here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Go_%28game%29
Here's a nice little interactive tutorial: https://online-go.com/learn-to-play-go
And if you do play (online) I'm on KGS and OGS under the same username and would enjoy a game with a fellow pipester.

Hi. Yes, sort of. I have tried on and off for a couple years. I play against the computer on my iPad/iPhone and solve problems from time to time. Just when I think I am starting to "get it" I get frustrated.
Any advice?

Well, I'm really not qualified to give anybody any advice (currently running about 17-18 kyu) but playing against bots isn't as good a learning experience is playing a real live human. OGS (online-go.com) is a good server to start on; large player base, lots of noobs, easy browser-based interface. Also, books are a good move; apparently this is very good: http://www.amazon.com/Go-Complete-Introduction-Beginner-Elementary/dp/4906574505/ref=pd_rhf_dp_s_cp_30?ie=UTF8&dpID=51DNM0A1YHL&dpSrc=sims&preST=_SL500_SR94%2C135_&refRID=1MFSANB0K73QD5HBYP2G
And yeah, frustration is normal; the rules are easy, but learning to play well takes years...

Yep, beginner here with a few years under my belt, on and off. Mostly play vs computers but have played a few games vs people online. Have a couple go-bans (boards you play on) and can't wait to introduce the game to my daughter... she's not quite old enough yet though.

Yea I play Go. Fun game. I'm a Beginner. My son and I love to play. Had to get past falling in love with the capture, Go being a territory game. The hardest part is scoring. Scoring seems to be something that all Western Go players have a problem with. Little or no instruction on the method of counting.
