I was thinking about the overall trends in violent crimes directed at foreigners in the four countries that he mentioned. But you are right, Panama may still be safer than Colombia as a whole. Really, with the exception of El Salvador the places he was considering are quite safe.

Jealous of you world travelers, good on ya! Grew up surfing in OC, CA. Dedicated Old Man’s and Churches guy (San Onofre). Alas, I moved to Arizona in 1993 and now only surf for 1 week each summer. However, I can still surf and both my sons love being in the ocean. Oldest (20) surfs pretty well for a kid born in AZ. Even in crappy summer surf* San Diego, it is the best week each year.

*realistically being 50 and living in AZ, if it was pumping and 6’ I’d get hammered anyway, so good thing it’s mellow most summers!

In San Diego there's Blacks and Wind n Sea. North of that in Encinitas you can hit Swami's, D Street or Grandview.
