Recently I have discovered and become fond of Solani 660 —- a va / per / burley blend. This is pretty expensive tobacco. Any of you know a less expensive blend which is pretty close?

Have you had Jackknife Plug or RR? Pretty much the same components, and a bit cheaper, especially if you buy the big cans. Unfortunately, can't think of any bulk blends that rely on on DFK as a major component.

Sixpence is a near flavor match and easier to cellar. I phased out my supply of Silver Flake with it.

To my knowledge there is no Perique in Silver flake. It is a straight Virginia/Kentucky blend. All mine is from 2012-2013 and it is aging very nicely. I don't have any other Virginia/Kentucky blends that are really that similar to Silver. I also smoke Mac Baren Old Dark Fired, Orlik Dark Strong Kentucky and GL Pease Navigator for Virginia/Kentucky blends.

Danimalia : what is RR ?
Cigrmaster : whoops you are correct. no perique. was confusing in my brain w/ Peretti #8 slices, which has all three.
Cosmic : no 402 found, but 403 with same description. ridiculously cheap in bulk. might just try some.

I love Solani. Their blends are full flavored but not strong. Marlin flake, (while having perique) is a similar smoke (to me).
