A Forums member got me started with a sample, and now I have a pouch of Amphora Burley, and it's a balanced, full rich flavored burley blend. When I opened the pouch, I thought the pieces were pretty big and wondered if I should rub it out. Luckily, at the moment, I was too lazy, and find that it gives a nice long smoke and stays lit, a bit like good flake cut. For me anyway, what's not to like?

I really liked this blend as well when I tried a pouch. For me, Golden Extra hits the spot just a bit easier, so that's my go to burley making this one a bit redundant for my collection. I have no doubt that anyone who likes burley would love this blend though.

It was one of the first tobaccos I tried when I couldn't get my hands of Dunhills and I was pleasantly surprised. Makes the case that despite being essentially an OTC, and very readily available and cheap, I like it just as well as other haughty blends.

Sounds good! I haven't tried the burley pouch yet, but original blend Amphora is one of my favourite blends, and the full aroma is a pretty tasty light aro. I like the flake chunks in the OG blend.

I've been spoiled by some tins of premium blends, but as time goes by, I've found selected bulk and pouch tobaccos equally good in their genres. And Sutliff makes some blends as good as most. Smoke it first and ignore the packaging, and see what you think. At first, I was prejudicial and felt like I was stepping down a rung, but over time, not so much.

I love the amphora burly blend! Very high quality delicious stuff. Ive yet to try solani aged burly flake, but I can't see it being much better than the amphora at half the price
Certainly the Solani is not twice as good, or even much better at all! It is different though, and excellent. I suspect the bit of VA added to the Amphora gives it a bit of a softer flavor profile suitable for all-day smoking, but I'd count both among my regular burley purchases

I'm on my third or fourth pouch of it, and I like it a lot. It's very tasty, and it's very user friendly, one of the least fussy blends I've smoked. I like to really cram it into a cob, no rubbing out, for a super driving smoke. You can nurse it forever with no relights.

Drives the point home that pipe smoking is a very affordable luxury. Of course it can be a trainwreck with TAD and especially PAD gone wild but there's really a very small price difference between most "OTC" and specialised blends, and anything with the MacBaren name on it is at least good quality. Compared to cigars, alcohol, and fancy foods I'm going to say it is offering the same level of enjoyment (to me) at a tenth of the price.

I agree. An interesting aspect is that blends which sell out quickly aren’t much more expensive when available than things which are always available which isn’t the case with wine for example.

I’m loving the burley blend. Makes me wonder about MacBarens HH Burley since they own the amphora blend...
Just smoked some while watching a movie on my phone. Tasted like corn nuts or popcorn!
