In Toronto, the predominant sub-species of squirrels are black, and quite large. I was there one March, and it was still pretty cold, but the squirrels were plump. I've never seen a white squirrel (albino). I suspect they are at a disadvantage as prey, and I wonder how they do with mates. Apparently the Olney squirrels are pairing up quite well. Could you tell if their eyes are red? Some all-white cats have blue eyes, but I don't know that they are technically albino -- probably most aren't.
Eyes looked red this morning. Maybe a hard night …lol!! Seriously, they did appear red or light brown

Ever see a maelanistic one?

I've got a million of those around here. Someone at Kent State University released a bunch out onto the Commons and from there they spread all over northeast Ohio. They're grey squirrels.

A real treat is seeing a half n half, which is a black body with an all grey tail.

Never seen an albino, my guess is they'd get picked off really quick around here. We've got an abundance of hawks to go with our abundance of squirrels.

What I wanna know is if they taste different.

These around here, I've only ever seen two, are true melanistic. Black eyes, mouths, tongue, and toe pads.
Ours up here, too. Some even look oily, or shiny like leather. Every part of their bodies is pitch black. They're the most common squirrel around my immediate area, but are listed separately in the game regulations since people outside of our area seldom encounter them and don't realize that they're mutated greys. It's funny to hear out of towners freak out about the black squirrels.

Since there's so many of them, and so many normal greys, the genes get all funkified (the real term, my girlfriend's a scientist) and you'll see them with grey tails, or sometimes all black but with the white tips on their hair.

What makes ours odd is that they're aren't any others. We're eaten up with the red ones.

I still think the best albino seen by someone I knew was when my girlfriend saw a albino fox. She said it felt more like seeing a spirit.
And me personally the albino beaver was pretty cool. I was smoking University Flake (note to self get more University Flake.

There is, or was atleast a family of albino deer in my neck of the woods. Saw two of them one day right outside my bedroom window in the middle of town. Unfortunately I ran, literally ran through the house looking for my camera and must have scared then away. My wife (gf at the time) who spotted them first thought they were goats.

Found out later that year they live in a patch of woods 8 miles from where I was at.
