Like I said, I’ve shopped with Al Pascia for years and this is the first incident. My guess is that it’s rare for their products to get caught up in customs. Plus, their prices are so low (particularly on Dunhills) that even a $30 bill for customs processing is still worth the trouble.

Well, Paul found there's no tricking their customs folks in Greece. But it looks like recent problems are US related.

In the past, I've used "briar tobacco pipe parts for repair" with success, but if they pull out a pristine pipe, that raises questions (in fact Paul said on one shipment, they didn't believe they were antique pipes). I've shipped many pipes overseas to Greece, France, Spain, etc. without one issue, so perhaps this will pass.

Thanks for your thoughts on my situation guys.

I just meant to share with you all and hope that not happen to others.
Regardless of the taxation, I must say, Alpascia do a really beautiful job with their products. The paper they used over the pipe box, that lace... I felt myself getting something really special from them. The pipe is beautiful btw.
