I've obtained a tin of Robert Lewis' Wingfield Mixture with about 35 years of age. This is my first really old tin, so I'm quite excited to have a taste - assuming everything is ok with the content.

I could probably finish the tin in a couple of weeks, if I put some effort in, but I would prefer to make it last a little longer. If I transfer the tobacco to a jar, how much of a hurry am I in before it won't be worth smoking?

I would appreciate any advice before my planned breaking of the seal in the weekend :puffy:

Buy a 4 oz mason jar. Packed tightly, the 2 oz Wingfield should just fill the jar. Then, enjoy it when you want it. The only possible issue is that many really old blends tend to croak out when exposed to fresh oxygen. So it's possible that you may lose a little "something" after a few days merely by having opened the tin. Jarring it, tightly packed, ASAP after opening the tin should reduce that issue to a minimum.
It's a great blend. Enjoy!

Thank you sablebrush, that's great advice. I have a bunch of mason jars, so I'm ready for tomorrow's grand opening :D I keep my fingers crossed that it won't be a tin of fossilized leaves...
