Hey all, new to the forum here - I recently scored this old Peterson online. After doing some quick online research, I think I was able to determine this is a Pre-Republic 1945-49 Pete. The number stamping is one I'm not familiar with, guessing it's the shape?

My bad, I re-read my post and it really was vague as were the pics. The stamping on the top of the shank says "Peterson's Sterling", and "Made in Ireland" on the bottom. The side of the shank is stamped "255". The band hallmarks are K&P shields, with "Sterling Silver" and "Petersons Dublin" stamped in line.
The only knowledge I have on Petersons is what I've found online. My estimation is that this is a Pre-Republic 1945-49 Peterson. Given the stampings, does that seem like an accurate estimate?

Very hard to say BUT the silver is hallmarked so you can get an exact year if you can read the last letter of the three symbols.

Thanks for the info! It looks to me like the hallmarks read "K&P". This is a project, so once I clean up the band I'll know for sure.

As for the shape, I'd agree with billiard, but I can't find any info on a previous shape number that matches 255.

I'd say Pre-Republic 1947-49.
"Later they stamped their pipes with "Made in Ireland" in a circle format 1945-1947 and still later with "Made in Ireland" in a block format 1947-1949. The "Made in Ireland" block format came in either one line or two lines."
There are no date hallmarks on this pipe, the K&P is the Kapp & Peterson mark. The STERLING line are very nice pipes, and EXCELLENT smokers.
:)
