After some debate and bargaining, I've finally decided to add a Meerschaum to my pipe collection. Reading the many sources on the web, opinion seems divided on how to go about a deep clean. Some suggest using the same method as with a briar - using alcohol on a pipe cleaner to remove any stubborn tar in the shank and stem, whilst others say never to let alcohol touch meerschaum. So, over to you, esteemed meerschaum smokers. How do you go about your periodic deep clean of a meerschaum pipe?

Thanks Roth. With my briars, I give them a good clean after each smoke and then, about once a month, I use bristle pipe cleaners and a shank brush - both dipped in alcohol - and give them all a good going over. The meerschaum is new, so I will make sure it stays in good, clean condition.
