No, this is not about the McClelland tobacco. I have a friend venturing to England later this week. Is there any tobaccos that he worth picking up that we are unable to get here in the states?

One that I enjoy quite a bit is Velvan Plug. Others I'd recommend are St. Bruno and Condor (just to say you've tried it). I've also been playing with the Irish plugs. Mick McQuaid, Revor, Yachtsman and Erinmore Plugs. They are fun blends and the plugs provide a long very satisfying smoke.

Paul Olsen's My Own Blend No. 111, a Kentucky burley-forward "Va/Bur/Per",

is said to be one of the best Virginia blends not available in the USA.

I read where The Danish Pipe Shop, a sponsor here, will ship to the US, but

the costs are exorbitant. (In Great Britain £18/100gr. should be a good price.)

@cortez - +1 on the Paul Olsen 111; it's a fantastic smoke. I've just finished the tin I bought in Copenhagen and I'm gutted! I sent a sample to @jiminks so hopefully he will do a review soon. The issue with 111 is that you can't buy it in the UK - you have to order from the Danish Pipe Shop. Soooo....
@deepspringfarm - welcome to the forums! I live in England; you will need to order the plugs mentioned (and I would add Warrior Plug to John's list), and I would order them and the 111 online for delivery to the address you're going to be staying at. That way, they'll be waiting for you/will arrive while you're here. Where are you staying? If London or Essex, then please let me know if you'd like to meet for a bowl and I'll make the arrangements. Similarly, PM me if you want contact details in case you hit any issues during your visit. Things can be resolved much more easily if you have someone who is local and speaks the language! :puffy:

OK - so I rushed and misread the OP; I thought that deepspringfarm is coming to England, not his friend. Doh!
However, the rest of my spiel still applies, suitably adapted for your friend. Following on from JD's sensible comment, I would also have a look at these superb blends from Glynn Quelch to see if anything takes your fancy - http://www.gqtobaccos.com/.

Thanks guys for the great response and suggestions. And thanks Andy for the invitation. So, are these blends you can get in some shops or does it really need to be ordered? My friend will be going with his wife and family and will probably only really be able to duck in a shop really quickly. But he is a pipe smoker too and will probably want to get some tobacco for himself.

Yes. Is he still here with us I don't see him posting anymore ? I always wanted to try Condor but have never been able to get my hands on it.

@deepspringfarm - there are specialist tobacconists - mainly in City centres like St James in London - that carry a wide range of pipe tobacco, but it's the same stuff (except for the plugs) that you can get in the US. Let me know if your friend wants more detail.

Hi, If you want to try the best Tobacco you will smoke, GERMAINS RICH DARK FLAKE, (which in my view), is the same as Stonehaven and made by the same company! I buy it from SMOKE KING, www.smoke-king.co.uk Worth saying I am just a customer nothing to do with the company or tobacco producer.. Try it you will not be disapointed.

Regards, to all from Scotland. :puffpipe:
