Great pictures! $17.50 for a Sasieni...

My favorite was the GBD carve your own meerschaum.

"You can carve this" yeah right.

Totally impressive. These photos should all be saved, and certainly the boxes themselves,

for the mega pipe museum ... somewhere. Has anyone read the inside top of the Savenelli

pipe box lately? At least some of them have a wonderful primer on pipe smoking, which among

other things supports the idea that stems should not be removed from pipes until they are

entirely cold after smoking. Many other good and worthy suggestions on there, for beginners

and old pipers who just want to compare the doctrine with their own habits. I'm mostly in

sympathy with what they say, and thanks to my wife who gave me a breathtaking Sav

673KS bent Rhodesian Opera with contrasting briar bands for Christmas. What an elegant

and stately pipe it is. And best of all, it smokes like a dream.

That was fun to take a look back at those! Blue Riband boxes are quite rare. We see a number of pipes but I can't even say I've seen one come with a box or bag. Neill was looking for BR boxes earlier this year for the Chicago show, but I don't believe he came up with any.
I was fortunate to find a Kaywoodie Churchwarden last year that came with the box, bag and paperwork.

yo mlc - I missed your initial fabulous thread a year ago, but now have redressed my error. I have many of the pipe brands in my estates, but only now am seeing what kind of boxes they originally came in. Good show!!

Great pipe porn, or is it pipe merchandising/packaging porn? Modern day pipe makers and manufacturers should take a page from this nostalgic peek back into a bygone era and reproduce this old style of packaging. Today your darn lucky to get a half decent sock with most pipes (which I find ridiculous) and there's the eye appeal with the box graphics, manufacturers story, etc. I don't know if there's research done on this sort of thing in marketing but if it's being overlooked, it's foolish IMO. It's like the increasingly rare occasion when I get to walk into a really old general store or hardware store that has really old stock on display, I gravitate right to it.
