Wow! Full on trip for sure. My Dad was a South and Central Americas wing shooter for a long time thru the 1980’s. My trip to Argentina was cancelled in ‘87 due to the Mutiny. Dad had some interesting “guides and outfitters”.
No, unfortunately I don't speak Spanish although I am making an effort to learn some. English ability of the Argentinians is mixed, naturally, but most people in the tourist areas of the capital of Buenos Aries (including the pipe shop owner) speak enough English to be able to communicate. In the more rural areas English is hit or miss (mostly miss). In the hunting/fishing areas, for example, while the outfitter and the ranch/lodge owners spoke very good English (since they primarily cater to US sportsmen) the English ability of most of the actual guides was very limited. But a few basic words and hand signals seem to make things work!Looks like you had a nice trip!! Do you speak Spanish or do they speak English??
That's correct his name is Gerardo Benz.Unfortunately I didn't get his name, but I can say that he was very friendly, spoke English (which was important as my Spanish is non-existent), and went out of his way to dig thru his estate pipes to find me a great one!
Not the same place. Monk is from Bahia Blanca.Sounded like a great time, nice shop too, ohh they also have a website.

Best beef in the world.I heard Argentina is like Europe with better weather, and friendlier people. And best known for softest beef in South America.
Okay, standoffish. Brits are rather friendly. They are very welcoming unless you run into them after aWhat the f...k makes you think we are unfriendly people
Very nice find! Did you also indulge in a steak with chimichurri sauce and some empanadas while you were there? Sorry I missed the shop when I was in Recoleta. I guess I spent too much time at the cemetery looking for Evita's tomb!Catching up on some long overdue posts over this July 4th holiday weekend. Took a great sporting trip to Argentina a few months back with a couple buddies (hunting & fishing in Santiago del Estero and Catamarca provinces, with one day transit thru Buenos Aires). This was my third trip back to Argentina, and it's always a fantastic time with great food and very friendly people. On this visit, made a point of visiting Patagonia Pipes in the Recoleta district of Buenos Aires. Nestled behind an unassuming storefront, the shop is tiny but packed full of a surprisingly good selection of tobaccos and both new & estate pipes squirreled away in various drawers and cabinets. To make a long story short, ended up walking out of the shop with a nice 1921 Dunhill patent Bruyere bent billiard (shape 54) as well as a tin of Samuel Gawith Cabbie's Mixture (a VaPer blend I have been wanting to try for some time, but which have had difficulty finding in-stock anywhere here in the US). Now when I smoke this combo I'll always think of Argentina...
A few photos posted below. First three pics (of storefront, friendly shop owner and several customers) are from the Web and give a good "feel" for the place. Last pic shows my acquired treasures. Definitely worth a stop for any pipe smokers who find themselves down there!

Not sure about the Monk page, but looks like the right website. Here it is below, with correct street address of Rodriguez Pena 1713 in Buenos Aires:Sorry, I confused myself because Monk has it's own website.
Patagonian pipes has a great selection of high grade estate pipes
Definitely got my share of the fine Argentinian beef while there -- the meat eating culture is one of the biggest attractions for me! Yes, everyone does "have to" go see Evita's tomb to check it off the list, but I enjoyed the pipe store more!! Another cool shop you have to visit if you go to Buenos Aires again is Arandu (also in Recoleta; website Talabarteria, productos de campo y deporte a caballo - ARANDU - https://arandu.com.ar/ ). I make a point of visiting there every time I have gone to Argentina. Love that place for gift shopping...Very nice find! Did you also indulge in a steak with chimichurri sauce and some empanadas while you were there? Sorry I missed the shop when I was in Recoleta. Although I can understand the fascination with Evita, and the Recoleta cemetery has a good dose of classical art, I never found it interesting to search for that grave.Very nice find! I was being somewhat facetious in my remarks. While I spent a fair amount of time exploring the cemetery, admiring its artistic aspects, I never did, in fact, find Evita's tomb. Nor did I go out of my way looking for it.Although I can understand the fascination with Evita, and the Recoleta cemetery has a good dose of classical art, I never found it interesting to search for that grave.
It's a wonderful country. I especially liked Puerto Iguazu and the falls.I love my time in Argentina.
It's time for me to go so I can explore the tobacco store
