A Serendipitous Encounter With Bulgarian Pipe Maker George Boyadjiev

Earlier today I was in downtown Sofia, Bulgaria with Dal, @thepipesteward. We took a picture that he posted to a FB group. A short time later we were contacted by a Bulgarian man asking if we wanted to meet up for a pipe. Of course we did! Turns out that the man was George Boyadjiev, an artisan pipe maker. We were fortunate to share a pipe together at a coffee shop. Afterwards he took us for a tour of his shop. He was currently working on a lot of pipes for Blue Room Briars. You can see them in progress in the pictures below. He was a humble and kind man. I’m meeting him again next week to commission a pipe!

Keep an eye on the Blue Room Briars site in the coming weeks. He is finishing up around 20 pipes for them this coming week. There will be a mix of his higher end pipes as well as a new line that consists of all sub $200 pipes. This line is called NomaD. Everything is done by hand. Nothing is prefab. I watched yesterday as he hand cut each stem.
