I see this sometimes with cars. Wife says sell that car, guys says OK I will try, and lists it for some stratospheric amount. When there is no interest, he just shrugs his shoulders and says there weren't any buyers.

Pretty sure all briar in my household is dead, Jim, dead!

I've always surmised that "dead root briar" is briar harvested from the shrubs that had died in the ground. Hence it was aging for a time before being dug up. Could be a few months to many decades, so, to me, a marketing play.
