Hello, everyone

I just want to share these little/large pipes I have in my collection with ya’ll with hopes that you’ll enjoy them.

But also to hear any information one might have on them. I couldn’t find anything terribly substantial on patent era Parker’s other than they are Dunhill seconds at some point in time but not always... they seem to command a hefty price tag when I’ve done some basic googling but I haven’t seen anything recent...

I look forward to the ensuing discussion :)

andrew

both of them are Super Bruyere...

I just re-read the Pipedia page on them after I posted this and it is quite detailed. I guess I just didn’t click last time I read it. Turns out the bent billiard above is from 1925 and the straight is 1948.

still curious to hear about these failed Dunhills from others.

My 95, a later pipe, Super Briar Bark. A good sized billiard, marked as a group 4, to me it's more like grp 5/6.

Love the stem on that 95 vs Dave's Super Bark- do you think it is original?
We lost the top Parker collector a few years ago, Tony Soderman. I don't know if anyone has picked up that torch for the brand.
Yup, it’s an original. The P is still quite prominent. What was Tony’s handle I’d be curious to go back and read his posts on Parker’s.

Tony wasn't a member, but a high volume Ebay seller, where is seller name was "Mr. Can". He also traveled to most pipe shows, so he was quite well known.
His ebay listings were epic.
Here's a few threads:

Tony knew an awful lot about every kind of pipe, and I still miss the arguments we used to have at the Chicago show. But the leading Parker collector was Mike Reschke.

I like Parker pipes and have a compact cherrywood shape briar. I really like those hefty ones with the extra generous chambers for long slow smokes; I have a few similar pipes but no Parkers. I somewhat doubt the Dunhill "seconds" concept, though Parker and Hardcastle are owned by Dunhill, and I don't doubt that briar and other materials are graded and passed along if they are not the primo quality. From shapes and fittings, I'd say that Dunhill/White Spot pipes that prove insufficient go to the crusher, just to maintain the brand. I think they maintain those prices and wouldn't jeopardize them by selling near-miss outtakes. A salesman once hinted that a Britannia he was selling me was a Dunhill second; I didn't believe it, but I didn't debate it. It's a fine pipe ... no White Spot but a fine pipe.

Ah, that's right! We lost two premier pipe men in short order. I may have met Tony once, but I believe it was Mike who did more pipe show travel.

Was their knowledge recorded anywhere, magazines or papers given at the pipe shows?
I believe both may have had articles in the old Pipe Smokers Ephemeris publication, you can still find them on Ebay occasionally:

Or the current NASPC publication, "The PIpe Collector", back issues are available at their site. I don't know if they have a searchable archive (don't believe so).

Yes Mike Reschke, The Parker Man.
I once sold him a large smoked st. grain Dublin shape
and an unsmoked large billiard Root.
Jesper Klith sold him a Parker catalog from the old Paul Olsen shop here in Copehagen. I managed to get a photocopy of it.
Because of this tread I am now smoking a bruyere 5/F
England 23 Pat no 11989/17. It was unsmoked when I snaped it up for the nose of Mike.
