A grass and hay filled smoke. Plenty of leathery notes that I quite enjoy. Definitely a Virginia! Somewhat coppery flavor fading in and out, don't like that. I do like the light bit of spice that comes through sometimes. Burned a little hot at first, but calmed down and is smoking nicely now.
Not sure about this tobacco, might not be for me. Further bowls will tell!

Just looked it up. Guess not. I always was under the impression it was, but it seems they are two unique blends.
My bad.

Try it in a really big pipe. Seems totally bizarre, but my best smoke of MB VF so far was two flakes in a G sized Castello, 2" deep and 7/8" across. Heaven.

Re: xl 20, yes that big. I can't promise magic I guess - I've smoked the flake a half dozen times now and only once did it really speak to me. I basically like the flavor profile, very sweet with some toasty notes (the mac baren "honey on toast" flavor I guess). But sometimes it seems a little rough to me too. But I spent about 2 hours in a hammock one night and I just couldn't get enough of the flavor, it was really singing that one time.

It does have a honey flavor to me. I prefer to smoke the MacBarons VAs from a wider chamber than I would normally smoke Virginias in. It tends to deepen the flavor and lessens the bitey bitey. But, I don't reach for these very often at all. But, once I have the tin open, wide bowls tends to help me get through it.

No Mc Barens Virgina nr.1 RR for me any more, i was nearly hospitalised due to tongue burn, thats when I discovered that Biotene mouthwash -sure helped me out
Amen to that. VA #1 was one of the first VA's I attempted back in the day. Would have been better off sucking on a blow torch.

Whereas I rather like MB Virginia Flake I find their Virginia #1 to be somewhat chemically infused. I get the taste of drying paint for wont of a better description. Yes it does diminish during the smoke but I'm always aware of its presence.

Jay.
