Being Canadian I never encounter many cob smokers up here, they just are not that popular here in Saskatchewan. It is a very rare sight to encounter a fellow pipe smoker and I have never come across one smoking a cob but every now and then I look up on the wall of my local B+M and see the displays from Missouri Meerschaum and remember that I have a few cobs in my collection I seem to remember enjoying.
Last week was one of those times and over the weekend I pulled one of my cobs out, loaded it up with some plain ribbon cut burley and was remind of how good the simplest of inexpensive pipes can be. A fantastic open draw, a great mellow smoke and just a great all around experience that leaves me questioning myself on why I don't smoke them more often. I think it's time to change that.
