A Few Antique Store Finds Yesterday

My wife and I do a lot of antiquing and flea markets. Yesterday we took my parents to a few shops with us. They love going also. I am always on the look out for anything pipe related, especially old estate pipes. I have been looking for years and could never find anything I thought would be worth buying condition or brand wise. Well yesterday I found 3. They were in pretty rough shape but not too far gone and I've had an itch lately for a new pipe or two. I've been focusing all of my extra money right now on tobacco so I thought it was a perfect opportunity. Of the 3 I restored these 2 today. A Kaywoodie Prime Grain Model 69 and a GBD 9457 Virgin. I know the GBD Virgin is supposed to be unfinished but I love the redish dyed pipes so I couldn't help myself and dyed it and finished it with carnauba wax also on a buffing wheel. The third one is an old Savinelli De Luxe Milano 207 with a clear stem. I'll post pictures of that one when I get it finished another day. For good measure, I'm throwing in a selfie of me with my rooster because I had to trim his spurs today also. I always do a selfie with him when I have to do that after that ordeal is over ?

Thanks! My first try at restoring besides touching up my own newer pipes on occasion. I have buffer wheels and some equipment, dyes for leather etc for one of my businesses so it works right in for myself. I find the newer Savs loose their finish rather quickly from the factory so its nice to be able to keep them new looking also. I was happy with the result and grateful for the price I got them for.

Well I got the Savinelli 207 finished. I ended up dying it brown like it was originally. I got most of the brown/black staining out of the stem draft hole but gave up towards the end. I figure a couple of bowls out of it and it will be stained again anyways. Its definitely sterile though. I used a ton of alcohol Pics don't do it justice. The grain is really nice and deep.

I definitely need to check out antique shops and flea markets. My wife loves them, along with car-boot markets. Good reason to carry her shopping bag(s) now.

Is the Kaywoodie stinger one that screws into the shank? I have one of those, a Drinkless model, and was surprised to find out how well it smokes, and the cleanup is easy and minimal. It is my only pipe with a remaining stinger -- the removable ones I have removed.

The unremoveable ones can be snipped off, much to the disdain of Kaywoodie collectors. Then you can pass a cleaner through the stem while smoking. Either way, I have nothing but respect for any pipe smoker that can smoke a Kaywoodie without it gurgling like a bad drain. I just wonder if any exist in real life, or whether it's only a rumor.
