Wow, I saw no reference to D-Day until reading this post. My father was in the Pacific during the invasion, and came to Europe for occupation.
Amazing collection Brobs!
If anyone ever gets to New Orleans - don't miss the WWII Museum which started as the D-Day Museum. There's a pretty moving Imax movie about D-Day with smoke, dive bomb sounds and explosions. Narrated by Tom Hanks. We took my mother and father several years ago. After the movie, the lights came back on and my mother was weeping because the emotions of feeling like she was under attack again overcame her. Everyone in the theater wanted to know what was wrong and she explained that her home town was bombed by the Nazis (in Hungary) when she was 17. That was pretty moving in itself. The museum folks came over and gave my mother and father a private tour. My father was then legally blind, so they let him touch things that were on display, which meant a lot to him. We were pretty grateful for the way that they were treated.
Thanks to all that sacrificed on this day.
