I'll be going into hiding at my dad's with my little dog.
Even though we live very rural, there is a camp close by where they insist on days of massive amount of fireworks.....which are illegal here, but not enforced. Which is fine with me, I hate most laws.
But, my 20 pound Chorgi has noise induced seizures. He recently had a huge episode of cluster seizures, which almost killed him. I was able to get 130mg of Phenobarbital in him to stop brain damage.
His absolute biggest fear is fireworks. This just started last July 2th. Before that he wasn't afraid of anything, and had never had a seizure. But 4 days of house shaking explosions triggered his seizures. I'm not sure if it's a change in his hearing, dementia, or it was just time for the illness to present itself.
Sorry to bring everyone down, but you asked. ;)

On a side note....he is happy and healthy even with thunder, which he hates now, and a lot of gunfire...which he also hates.
Being a Phenobarbital junky helps, but I'm worried the fireworks will push him over the edge.
So I get to sit in my dad's basement in suburbia. Yay!

Ok so it is going to be a disaster, but I will maybe have a pipe and alot of good food. How are you planning to spend this summer holiday?
You sound married. How else could you tell a holiday is going to be a disaster?

A lot of people don't understand the fear of fireworks their pets go through. 4th of July and New Years are the two busiest days for run aways. We start passing these flyers June 1 and plaster our website and social media pages.k9 safety (2).jpgk9 4th (2).jpg

That's a lucky dog to have you taking care of it.

Absolutely.
Around here we also have to think about livestock.
Every 4th of July we get calls of sow hogs and even cows accidentally killing their young due to panicking.
Our Belgians aren't the biggest fans of booms either. Our horses are traffic, dog, and noise safe, but the extreme booms does excite them.
We have done 4th of July parades, but get the horses out of there before the fireworks.
