Ok, so I have tried 3 of the blends cigrmaster sent me.
Boswell's Christmas Cookie, Berry Cobbler, and Dunhill Flake...
Cookie was very smooth, cool burning, easy to keep lit and had a great room note. I am kinda wondering where the flavor was...
Berry Cobber stayed lit, but burned alot hotter, good room note. Again wondering about flavor...
Dunhill Flake, first flake, did cube cut which worked great. A slight flavor which was nice, and burned long and cool.
Is there something wrong with me? On almost all the blends I have tried I am getting 95% tobacco flavor, 5% of whatever flavor its supposed to be... Nothing has yet made me go "woah, this has a great flavor"

I have smoked a pipe for over 25 years and am still learning. This all does not come overnite. Slow down, take your time and enjoy the moment!
Do you think its something that is "an acquired taste" to pull out the flavors of the tobacco?

Hmm...well, my first thought is that you're smoking aromatics, for the most part. I feel that most aromatics taste like hot air, which is why there are very few that I smoke. Try some good OTC burley (lots of flavor, even if it's not a sweet dessert flavor), or instead try some English/Balkan blends or Lakelands. Those, to me, are where the real flavor is....

OTC burley... Capn Jack?
Which English/Balkan blends do you recommend that my B&M might carry

Yes. You may just need to give it a little more time. When I first started smoking pipes, all tobacco tasted pretty much the same to me. It took a while to learn to discern the different flavors.

Happens when your a hyperactive guy in his 20s with ADD...
I am noticing that smoking is starting to change that... its calming me way the hell down

and allowing me to focus a little better

js, you need to not smoke bowl after bowl. Your taste buds need to rest. I am not a huge aro smoker, but those Boswell's do have a lot of flavor if smoked slowly. If you are heating up your pipe, then you will not taste the flavors. If the pipe isn't broken in then all the flavors available will not come through. The Dunhill is a very sweet, full of flavor blend when smoked slowly . Unfortunately if you are smoking out of a very cheap, not broken in pipe, then the heat from the pipe will take away most of the flavors. Yes latakia you can taste a mile away and that may be the thing to try. I started out with English blends and did enjoy them. Maybe grab a tin of Frog Morton and see if that is to your liking.

I hate to be the one to say it but maybe you are expecting flavours that tobacco doesn't offer...
People can be pretty loose with their adjectives and you may be taking some things too literally.
Aromatics seldom deliver in the flavour department, in my opinion, so I'm not surprised that they haven't matched your huge expectations.
Settle down and enjoy the blends for what they are, not what they are supposed to be!

What herbineDave said... dont think too much, just sit back and allow the subtle flavors to kind of rise... god damn I just sounded like a snob  ... but really take your time and enjoy it... there are tons of different tobacco's out there, it's going to take a VERY long time for you to learn what you like and what you dont.
Hell ive been smoking for about 20 years and Im still learning what I like and what I dont.

Smoking very slowly could do it. I'm an old pipe smoker and am still learning. It takes me a while to break in a pipe.

Hahaha this thread is aweSome particularly Flyfishin's input. To me half the fun of smoking is trying to figure out what the hell it is that I am tasting. One of my favorite tobaccos so far MacBaren Burley London Blend all I have been able to discern is cocoa but it keeps me coming back because I'm trying to figure out what "that taste is". The funny part is that this is a straight forward blend. The English blends I can taste differences between them but for the life of me pin pointing each flavor is hardly a task I am equipped for. Like others have said enjoy the journey! Who cares if you can't taste every little flavor enjoy it for what it is and take each bowl as a new experience in developing your pallette. Also Cigrmaster has se good advice about resting your taste buds. Give it a break an you'll be happy to find new flavors when you return to your pipe.

Herbinedave has the wisdom here. Listen padawan, for you have much to learn and a lifetime in which to learn it.

When you smoke a pipe it is not a race . Life is fast enough and the pipe should put in slow motion . The heart rate and the breathing should all slow down . Then the pipe will become like a dream and all the flavors will shine . This is the elusive euphoria that all pipe smokers quest for and try to duplicate . This is also how pipers get hooked on a blend . Once you have a perfect smoke it will all become clear .

Just keep breaking those pipes in and trying new blends. One day the right one will speak to you and you will end up with the word "whore" in your custom title.
