Beautiful! I’ve never had much inclination to buy an “expensive” pipe mainly just because I’ve been very happy with how my relatively inexpensive factory pipes smoke. However, I’ve been very drawn to historic pipes like yours. Very nice addition to your collection.

Given the cherrywood's connection to France, and the WWII connection between England and France, I'll bet there was some sort of salute involved in the production of the 479. A top English brand blown to bits but carrying on in spite of it, making a briar copy of France's #1 "everyman's pipe."
