I have found very few outdoor jobs or activities that make it hard to enjoy a pipe while doing them, I think tobacco and pipe selection have a great deal to do with it.
Clayton here, from the Heart of Oklahoma.
I have enjoyed tobacco from an age most would deem inappropriate, played around with pipes in my youth but never took it seriously. About six months ago I took up the pipe once again, this time in earnest. I have come to love everything about pipes...
When I was a small child my father smoked a pipe off and on, the one pipe I remember most was a Blue Dr. grabow Viscount. There are only two other people that I can remember, one was our neighbor, Bill. He was a farmer and I remember watching him work his crops on his J.D. Tractors, pipe ever...
One of my favorite pipes is my Dr. Grabow Omega, I can not smoke it without a filter in place, when I have tried I ends up a gurgling, goofy mess. With a filter in place it's all a-ok.
By no means am I a pipe guru, but I have found that my pipes which are designed to use a filter, perform much better with the filter in place. Although I do occasionally smoke them without a filter, it is generally more enjoyable with a filter.
Where do you get these grab bags? Also have any of you tried one of the new M.M. Hardwood pipes? I recently bought a maple diplomat, and I love it! Currently my favorite pipe.
