    Rad Davis briar

When I visited his shop he was using Mimmo Briar. Doesn’t mean he always used it, but that’s what he was using at that time. I’ve used quality Briar from a few cutters and have had good results. As long as it’s quality Briar your off to a good start.

    Spade Bits into Chamber Bits

The ones I use from Vermont Freehand are ground on two sides both with an edge. I have not had to sharpen mine as I do most my drilling with modified S&D bits or freehand drill with spoon bits.

    Forum Pipe Carvers. 6-7-17

I have been at it for awhile now. "Klodt pipes" prices range $235-$300. I'm not sure forum rules allow a link or pictures of pipes for sale so best just to google. I also was on the November 15th 2016 Pipes Magazine Radio Show if your interested in a little more background on my pipe making. Thanks!

    Briar Lab Is Shutting Down!

I enjoyed my time with Micheal, Sarah, Joe, and Nate. They definitely helped me improve my pipe making and sold a lot of pipes for me last year. I'm not sure the reason for the closing but I wish them all well. I just wished they were closer as so I could have spent more time with them as there...

I was lucky enough to enjoy smoking a Scott Klein pipe. Amazing stem work and balance. Truley inspires me to make better pipes. He's a real nice guy too!

Why Your NEW pipe tastes SO BAD.

I don't know any artisan pipe makers staining the inside of a bowl. Most, including myself, are very careful when applying stain as to not get it in the pipe. Occasionally a drip occurs on the rim and I sand the bowl to remove the stain. I've used an unflavored gelatin and charcoal mixture for...

Got a Drilling Problem (Technical Question)

I would cut it down and remove the bit. Then use horn or bamboo to complete the pipe. In the future, always drill the tobacco chamber last as to allow the chamber and air hole to meet properly. You can drill the smoke chamber just too the air hole and then visually, using small plunges and...
