    I think it's a perfectly reasonable question from OP actually. In my case I'd been married 22 years before took up piping, so it wasn't part of the relationship starting point! I'm so new to it haven't got to double figures of bowls, and Mrs Zero has just revealed she has bad memories of pipe...

    Think the "cleaning" issue probably it. Was out and about and smoked 2 bowls (one before and one after a rugby match), making a beginnery assumption that that would be ok and could clean it later. Perhaps not!

    Had a bowl today where I felt the predominant taste was "burning hair" rather than the official flavour of custard cream/vanilla. Feel it was me doing it wrong rather than anything else. Am I mis-perceiving things?

    Thanks for all the advice, team. Much appreciated! In the interim I've discovered that trying to smoke half a bowl is actually quite tricky, especially if you try to light it in a breeze.

    I had my first piping experience on Friday, thought I'd share my analysis :). Got myself a corn cob pipe and a 5g tobacco sampler (Kendal Exclusiv) to keep initial costs down. (Thought #1 - trying to do the 3-layer packing didn't seem to work tidily, not much room for 3rd pinch and fell out...
