***What Are You Smoking, June 2024?***

I had a bowl of Orlik Golden Sliced in my Brigham Capri. I was going to have some Balkan Sasieni since I bought a tin of it a month ago and still haven't tried it, I'm going to be the Best Man for my brother's wedding so I've been very busy, but since the Summer Solstice was tonight I went with...

The Advantages of "Too Many" Pipes (Or "Too Few")

I'm trying to limit myself to one pipe per blend style, I just got my first Kentucky blend last month which naturally was an excuse to get a pipe reserved for Kentucky blends. I also got my first straight VA so now I'm debating whether I should get a pipe for VAs instead of just using my VaPer pipe.

***What Are You Smoking, June 2024?***

Had my first bowl of Capstan Blue today and I'm already a big fan. Easy to see why this was Tolkien's go to blend. The only other straight VA I've tried so far is Sweet Virginia which I found rather dull, but Capstan is wonderful. I used to be skeptical of how good a straight VA could be, but...

    Hit the Motherload!

I didn't know War Horse Bar was high in nicotine, it is a pretty notorious blend I know since it's supposed to ghost as heavy as Lakelands

***What Are You Smoking, June 2024?***

I've been house sitting for my Grandma and taking care of her garden while she vacations out of state. I just had my first bowl of Three Nuns in my Paykoc meer lined olive wood and I must say this is now my favorite blend, I love the spicy character. It reminds me of what I love about Nicaraguan...

***What Are You Smoking, May 2024?***

I had the maiden voyage smoke for my estate Danish Sovereign, I had some PS Norwegian. I don't know if Norwegian counts as a codger blend given it has Orientals, but it's a great no frills smoke that I find is perfect for breaking in pipes given its shag cut and dryness. I think I'm going to...

    Briar Pipes - Ireland - Late 1860s

Pretty much. Clays were the norm in France, Britain and America well into the 1800s. They were seen as disposable so you can still beachcomb along the rivers by any major city from those countries and find broken and discarded clays. From what I understand the Spanish and Portuguese didn't adopt...

    Matches vs. Lighters: Any Difference?

I've never had any luck with matches for a pipe, for cigars I have provided there wasn't any wind and it was warm out. For a pipe I just use a Bic EZ Reach, I'm perfectly satisfied with how they work so I don't have any desire to invest in a pipe lighter.

Second trip to Cargo Hold in Poulsbo, WA

On Sunday I went up to Viking Fest, so naturally I paid Doug at Cargo Hold a visit. When I went last year we couldn't chat for long because I went on Saturday which is when the Norway Day Parade is so it was busy. It was far less busy when I went on Sunday and we were able to have a nice...

    The Tobacco Purge — Why?

There's a lot of blends that supposedly taste like cigarettes but I've never had one so that means nothing to me. A lot of people say that about PS Norwegian and that's my go to worry free smoke, I like the mellow flavor and easy burn plus find it to be great for breaking in pipes. Yeah it's...

What Cigar are You Smoking? 2024

I haven't smoked many cigars lately but this weekend I'm going to smoke an Andulusian Bull at a local lounge, will give an update Everybody I know who's smoked Davidoff has said they are not worth it. They say they're very well made but the flavor is just generic Dominican and that the...

    TAD Acquisitions 2024

I went to the Cargo Hold in Poulsbo, WA last weekend and picked up these legends. I've never tried any of them and can't wait to. Poulsbo is over an hour drive from my house so I've only been able to visit the Cargo Hold twice in the two years since I've been smoking a pipe. I still haven't...

What Tobacco did your Ancestors Smoke?

I didn't realize Swisher Sweets were around for that long. I love Half and Half, it's very polarizing but I think every pipe smoker should try it since it's so cheap and probably the easiest non aromatic pouch blend to find.

What Tobacco did your Ancestors Smoke?

Both of my grandfathers were pipe smokers, but sadly I have no way of finding out what blends they smoked or what brands of pipe they had. After they died I never found any pipes or tins when helping go through their effects, but I wasn't interested in pipe smoking back then so I probably...

My haul from the Cargo Hold yesterday

I'm aware of that, but considering this is in Washington and the Three Nuns, Capstan, and Bengal Slices all cost me $45 and that's how much Plum Pudding costs here I'd say $27 for Esoterica is pretty impressive. The only online retailer that ships to Washington and carries Esoterica I'm aware of...

My haul from the Cargo Hold yesterday

I'm putting it away because I feel right now I'm not experienced enough to fully appreciate it, I figure after I finish the VaPers already in my rotation I will be better able to. I wouldn't be interested in aging it unless I had a second tin to compare.
