Remove Deteriorating Clear Gloss Finish from Briar

I have a Peterson (Christmas pipe, I think) that I purchased new some years back. The pipe has a clear high gloss "piano shine" finish which is now chipping off the briar in random locations. I don't know what the gloss finish is composed of. I'd like to remove the gloss finish completely...

Could I Have Prevented Mold from Forming?

I recently bought several tins of Virginia and Vaper flake tobaccos, one of which was C&D Manhattan Afternoon. About a full month after initially opening the tin (which then seemed to be perfectly fine), I discovered gray mold throughout one side of the tin contents. The tin was about...

What is your "NEW vs USED" price break differential?

Well, sorry, but I couldn't come up with a better word for it. Here's what I mean. Let's say that you desire a #123 pipe for your collection. Let's say that a brand new #123 sells for $100. Let's also say that there is a #123 on Ebay that has good pics and is said to be lightly used by the...

Magic Eraser and a question about re-staining

Magic Eraser is...magic! I have an estate pipe that had heavy dark scorching on the bowl's thick rim. I couldn't even scrape it off. When I used ME with some elbow-grease and persistence, the rim is now spotless. However, I've learned that ME will obligingly remove the original stain, and so...

Bee Line lighter -- anyone ever use this?

Just wondering if anyone has tried the "...organic, logical alternative to butane lighters and matches"? See here.

Does Walnut bite? Let's check the reviews.

tobaccoreviews.com has 66 reviews on Middleton Walnut. As an exercise, I compiled what was said about tongue bite: -------------------- :-) No, it does not bite -------------------- *Lights easy, stays lit and if not pushed real hard, no bite. *There is absolutely no tongue bite and it...

Mac Baren 7 Seas -- Basic differences?

What is the difference between the three 7 Seas tobaccos? (Gold, Regular, and Royal) If you were going to store a large amount of just one of these, which would it be? For aromatic smokers, is one of these considered to be a better "mixer?" Thanks. I've read the reviews, and the "Gold" seems...

How to sanitize a bowl without salt/alcohol treatment??

Without doing the salt and alcohol treatment, what is the second-best method to clean and sanitize the bowl after reaming? Is there a cleaning liquid that I can use that will not jeopardize the briar? (I've already sanitized, cleaned, deoxidized, and polished the stem, which looks pretty good.)
