    Blend Ingredient Percentages

While reading the description of some blends on the P&C site, I wondered if the placement of ingredients in the list was indicative of the percentage of the tobacco in the blend? For example: H&H Signature Ambassador's Blend Latakia, Perique, Turkish, Virginia I'm thinking it's a logical...

    Can't delete 'sent' PM Messages

I've noticed that my most recent PM's that I've sent are not in my 'sent' list. I thought it may be because I haven't purged the list and don't have any more room. Unlike the 'received' list, which has a column to select messages for deletion, the 'sent' list does not. Instead of a check box it...

    Refurb; Finally

Back in October last year I found this pipe at a flea market and posted the find () with the nomenclature. It's either a Preben Holm or a Karl Erik. I finally got around to reconditioning the pipe. Here it is as compared to it's original state. I had a new stem made by Bear Briar.

    Santa Fe Pipe Store

I've checked the 'Pipe Store Locator' here, on Pipesmagazine.com for pipe stores in New Mexico and found the Santa Fe Cigar Co. I'm going to be in SF on business and want to visit the local shops. The reviews are few so I was wondering if has anyone been there? Do they have a lounge? Any info...

    Old Tobacco Tin

I recently posted photos of a new pipe rack I completed to the 'pipe accessories' forum. While preparing the pieces for the rack I borrowed some sanding equipment from a friend. This is the box it was in. I've never heard of this tobacco but the box certainly shows some age. Pretty cool find, eh?

    New Pipe Rack

I needed to justify my impending PAD. The best way to achieve this was to build another pipe rack. Now I have room for lots more pipes. Guess my reasoning worked... The current version of the rack came from a previous design in a post entitled "space-eliminator" in this forum. I can't seem to...

    A Little Is Alot

2013 was a year in which I spent time figuring how could I add a morta pipe to the herd. Finally, I had to let the idea go after some unexpected financial concerns cropped up. After all, another pipe isn't really a necessity, is it? What happened at Christmas, I couldn't have imagined in my...

    Latest Haul

Here's my latest haul from Pipes & Cigars. Bulk blends (if they can't be read)are McClelland's 2045, McClelland's 2040 (new blend to me) and Larry's Blend. Delivery was quick; no other problems. The only thing I notice is a lack of the 'personal touches' that used to be included in the parcels...

    Flea Market Finds

I found these two pipes in a flea market for $20. I've done some research but haven't come up with anything that helps to determination their origins. If anyone has any information regarding these pipes I'd greatly appreciate it.

    Wilderness Blend

With every TAD I attempt to add a blend to my cellar that I've not tried. It was the edition of the Pipes Magazine Radio Show where Fred Hanna was interviewed that inspired me give these blends a go. He spoke about two blends that he developed and are manufactured by McCelland, Wilderness and...

    From Days of Yore

I came across this interesting idea thought I'd pass it along for those of us who like using matches on windy days. "The familiar difficulty of lighting a match in a wind can be to a great extent overcome if thin shavings are first cut on the match towards its striking end, as shown in the...

    Show from the Recent Past

I listen to the shows in the car, usually on the Saturday following the original broadcast. Consequently, shows get 'backed up' in my brain so I don't know the exact episode my comment is related to but here goes. Brian discussed and/or mentioned reverse calabash designed pipes and asked for...

    Spring or Tax Anxiety TAD

There have been lots of TAD posts lately. I've been wondering if the advent of spring inspires us to celebrate the warming days by stocking our cellars? There is also a growing, ever present mantle of the tax man's intrusion into our enjoyment. My motivation for this episode of TAD contains both...

    Rainy Day Tamper

It's a dreary, rainy day here in the Northeast so I had some time to tinker.

    Tobacco Preferences

Brian addressed an interesting phenomenon that I've noticed but didn't pay much attention to until episode 25. I have tobacco from a wide range of producers, or so I thought, until I began to scrutinize my cellar. I was surprised at the amount of McClelland and GL Pease blends I've collected...

    Space Eliminator

I was sitting in my leather reclining chair and spied an untenable condition in my meager living quarters. There was some unused space between two windows. Efficient as I am, I could not let this abomination continue so decided to rectify the evil. That said, here is my latest Space Eliminator...

    A Unique Birthday Gift

I celebrated my birthday this week and was surprised by my 15 year old nephew with the following poem. I also received a pipe (a Caminetto, rusticated, full bent) but the poem trumps it all. Uncle Mike Has many pipes Every day a different type Different look Different feel So many that you...

    Closing Theme Song

Being a product of the '50's I have fond memories of the Roy Rogers show. One particular time I was at a friends house who was a Mickey Mouse Club fan. Was I ever upset that I couldn't watch Roy, Dale, Pat Brady and Triger. Inevitably I find myself singing or humming the "Happy Trails" theme...

    Pipe History or Myth?

I came across this image this morning while enjoying my favorite French roast and a bowl of Eric Nording's Fox Hound and had to chuckle. I've never seen nor heard of such an invention and wondered 'What's the point?" Seeing that it is pipe related I figured why not post it. The caption that...
