The Last Third of the Bowl

Good idea, it will make the second half of the bowl much nicer to smoke. In the U.K we call the last tarry moist bit of tobacco in a pipe ‘the Dottle’ and its not usually smoked.

    Tobacco suggestions?

You might try Peterson Royal Yacht, it’s been popular for over a 100 years, which is a pretty good recommendation. It’s a blend of burly and virginia which has a smooth and soft smoking quality with a very subtle sweet plum essence. It’s medium strong, ribbon cut and is very forgiving as it...

    Your Cellar Size

I am amazed by the amount of tobacco you guys have cellared. I have about 500 grams in jars and four unopened 50 grams tins and four opened and half used 50 grams tins. I feel vaguely guilty at storing so much, perhaps because I usually only smoke a bowl a day. For most of my life I would have...

    UK Pipe Smokers....or Lack Thereof

According to Mitchell of Cgars in the UK, pipe smoking took off during the pandemic and they had some problems keeping up with demand. I think people are smoking at home, I don’t smoke indoors I smoke in my garden, so when the weather is bad I don’t smoke at all.

    Opinion on Peterson System Pipe

I have a system 305, probably my favourite pipe. It’s light, has an acrylic stem and p lip. You can clench it comfortably as it hangs down nicely.Irish flake lasts me forty minutes with stuff and fold but I’m not a sipper. I keep my pipes clean, most times I smoke the first half and flick out...

    Hello from England

Christos, this quartet I’m in only started out three months ago, first gig is Saturday and is sold out, but it’s a village hall! No chance of us recording anything, trust me. The song I’ve just learnt is The Detectorists Theme, if you look it up on YouTube you’ll hear the sort of music I want to...

Yes , Soho was like living in a village, you get to know the residents by sight and the tourists drift in and out like the tide.

    Hello from England

Hi Sparker69, the Petersons Virginia Flake is medium in taste and strength, used to be called Light Flake, it burns easily and smells great.

How to Prepare Flake Pipe Tobacco

I use fold and stuff and it works great , however if a flake is too moist it can be a tiresome business keeping it alight, in which case just rub it out and let it dry out.

    Filter pipes

Peterson do a range of pipes called Dublin Filter which are all 9mm. They take Peterson filter which is charcoal filled and absorbs moisture and some tar from the smoke. They do reduce the draw somewhat, so you have to pack a bit lighter to compensate.

RIP Wilko Johnson of Dr. Feelgood.

I saw him at a venue in Poole about ten years ago, gave a great show and ‘machine gunned’ the audience with his guitar. RIP buddy.

The Lost Pipe Shops of London (video)

I used to buy tobacco in Fribourg & Treyer, they still sold snuff in those white screw top tubs. I’ve also smoked Benson & Hedges Original Virginia Flake ‘OVF’ in those oblong cream coloured tins. That tobacco was sublime, by far the best Virginia I’ve smoked. I’m pretty sure that I bought it in...

    Hello from England

Jack Hargreaves’s lived in the same part of the country as I did growing up and I saw him out and about, but I didn’t know him, one of my teachers was a friend of his. He was not unlike Jack, he smoked a pipe during lessons, sat on the edge of his desk and told us of his experiences, sailing and...

    Ashton Artisan

Some years ago I tried a couple of tins of Ashton Artisans blend which I liked a lot. Now, to me there were many similarities to Nightcap but there was an occasional piney note, like pine resin that cropped up - so here are my questions - Is that note because of the Syrian Latikia ? If not ,is...

    World Cup 2022 ⚽🏆

Grealish made a real difference, should have come on earlier. The game was played In a respectful manner and without all that disgraceful play - acting, diving and cheating that we see from many teams. That was a positive . I agree, the USA played well and could have won it, Wales may not be so...
