    Best of the Best OCBs…Go!

I thought everyone knew Carter Hall and Lane Ready Rubbed are the best. Really, this - Chatham Manor, and some other Russ codger blends, but I didn't consider them because they are more like "luxury" renditions of old codger blends.

    How Many Bowls a Day?

I have not smoked a pipe all week. I've just been slammed at work and have not done much this week besides work and sleep. I'll probably smoke one or two tonight and several tomorrow.

What Got You Into Pipe Smoking?

Cigarettes mainly, plus my stepdad and his brother smoke pipes.

    Pet Peeves?

I’ve always thought of a pet peeve as some subjective personal dislike, usually inconsequential in nature. A lot of people mentioned gurgling. I don’t think gurgling pipes fall into that category. Gurgle generally indicates bad drilling or tobacco that is not dry enough. I would consider it...

    Hobby Denial

Like regularly posting on a forum and acquiring very large numbers of pipes and large quantities of tobacco well beyond what anyone will smoke for years? puffy

    Hobby Denial

Thank you for the kind words, friend! I am in 100% agreement with your thread here.

    Hobby Denial

I am a tobacco connoisseur. I smoke cigars as well. The same is true for whisk(e)y. I think this is true for most of us who have been smoking a pipe for a long time. Not to say we are all like Jim Inks with his very refined palate and ability to distinguish and pinpoint all the elements of...

    Hobby Denial

To follow up on my response above, and because a picture is worth 1,000 words, we say we are "pipe smokers" and not "hobbyists" because we don't want our pipe smoking to appear as though it is an affectation. Calling it a hobby implies a bit too much self-consciousness about pipe smoking. None...

    Hobby Denial

Exactly. I agree 100% Yes, it is a bit embarrassing to think of pipe smoking as a hobby, so I reluctantly admit it is a hobby. I think none of us want our pipe smoking to come off as an affectation, so we just say we are "pipe smokers" and not "hobbyists." The truth is, every single member...

Pipe Smoking: A Thinking Man's Hobby or a Respite from Mental Chatter?

Side stepping the whole "hobby" issue which I have weighed in on numerous times and surely will again, pipe smoking is a "thinking man's hobby" in that the average intelligence of the pipe smoking community appears (to my eye) significantly above that of the population on the whole.

Anyone Mainly Buy Bulk Tobaccos (or Even Exclusively)?

I'm on the flip side. I used to favor bulk. Then I got tired of dealing with all the mason jars. I prefer tins. Easier to buy and store, and better for future trade or sale if it comes to that, plus I enjoy the tins and the tin art as a nice bonus.

Any Suggestions on a Straight Virginia?

Came in to say the same. It's very popular, but is still underrated IMO. It can hang with any of the Gawith flakes in my opinion.

How Many Pipes do you Have?

Maybe 15, plus as many cobs. I've been smoking a pipe for nearly ten years now. My goal is to have a small well-curated collection of nice pipes. I've already got the "small" part taken care of. Now I just need to swap out my cheaper pipes for some that I enjoy even more. I can say that...

Pipe Tobacco Tax NOT Reintroduced - Please Cite Primary Sources

Thanks for the clarification. Good to know that pipe tobacco is off the tax chopping block for now. The original article we all posted is from a reputable source, a think tank that’s been around for decades. The article actually is correct. We (myself included) all just failed to...

StillWell Star. A Pipe Tobacco Cigar

Drew Estate makes A LOT of different cigars. Even within the same lines, there is quite a bit of variation. For example, I really liked the Undercrown sungrown, but did not care for the others in the Undercrown line. I just think of Drew Estate as so varied that there is something in their...

Honest Question: Why do we Care what a Smoker calls Himself?

"Hi, I'm a piper who is new to the hobby." I think we tend to dislike "piper" for the same reason we dislike "hobby." It's a similar issue to the thread the other day about pipe smoking in conversation as being the focus of the conversation, or just something men do during conversations about...

StillWell Star. A Pipe Tobacco Cigar

I like cigars and mainly smoke cigars, rather than pipes, in the summer. There are a lot of great cigars in the $7 or $8 range, so $15.00 is starting to get up there, even for a premium cigar, let alone an experimental pipe tobacco cigar. They better be good! puffy

StillWell Star. A Pipe Tobacco Cigar

Agreed, but not because $15 is more than I'd pay for a cigar. At $15 you're already 3/4 of the way to a Davidoff or similar premium cigar, and in that price range, I'd probably just go straight for the premium cigar and skip the experimental pipe tobacco cigars. Of course if the reviews are...

    Should The Goverment Regulate Pizza?

Of course the government should regulate pizza much more stringently. Because obesity has become such a common public health issue, the government has a duty to enact laws to protective us from this addictive pizza, lest we all eat too much pizza and gain too much weight. Second-hand weight...

    Tax Increase Removed From Bill!

It is indeed back. Ill-Advised Nicotine Tax Thrown Back into Democrats’ “Build Back Better” Bill - Competitive Enterprise Institute (cei.org) These nanny state fucks won't quit. I don't think a huge tobacco tax hike is gonna pass right now, but I think we can all see the writing on the wall.
