    Charatan's Make Sandblast

The Charatan Relief sandblasts I think generally smoke better than the smooths. That's just my opinion, anyway. Sorry. Interestingly, they only blasted the bowls, and rusticated the shanks to "match" the bowl. If you have several examples, you'll see what i mean...

    My New French Briar Pipe

French pipe makers do some great work. Here's a shape thats not easy to execute well. This is a Jeantet, with just a few fills that are hidden very well. Unsmoked and very affordable... Anybody else out there who appreciate french briar?

Jim's Mac Baren Amphora Virginia Review.

After reading this thread i had to try some and now have 2 pouches from SP. MacBaren has created a broken flake that is just lovely and is a pleasure to smoke. It approaches that high level that the older tobacco blenders [G&H, SG) are so good at---the time-honored method of hot pressing to...

STOLEN PIPES from Chicago Pipe Show

At least Rodrigo was not harmed. Time to get security guards for the grounds, not just the event hall.

    Waste Not

For me, it's Mick McQuaid, either tin Square Cut or the really rare Ready Rubbed in a tin. I have a small stock from the 90s when i did a lot of buying from a shop in scotland, before the ban on shipping to usa hit most UK shops... is that late 90s correct? I also scored a 12 pack of pouch...

James Upshall Pipes - A Discussion

Actually, Ken, I've taken a closer look at the JU logo on this pipe. This logo I now think is engraved, too, NOT stamped. I'm afraid the dating should be adjusted? The lighting in the photo probably made it look softer vs the sharpness of engraving. Under a printer's loupe, I can see a crisper...

James Upshall Pipes - A Discussion

Thank you Ken for the informative and interesting feedback. 1982! I've spent last fews days getting to know ['double beaded' ]. It was carefully smoked, chamber is great condition, rim clean, only one small toothmark under the stem button to speak of. Smoked dry and cool, cleaner pass right to...

one more pic, from above! I think it has a very art deco look with those interesting bowl rings which relate to bulldogs in a funny way.

keep the '62 why? It's more of a rare shape and it's age is from a golden decade in Dunhill production!

Mac Baren VA #1: Whether You Like it or not - Read This

Hi there; Well, i don't use a timer while smoking ! Let's just say i use a relaxed pace, and try to keep the bowl going at a smolder level. Tamper it gently also to keep it going so you don't need to relight if possible. BTW, stored in a jar, Virginia #1 smells great and does seem to be aging...

Mac Baren VA #1: Whether You Like it or not - Read This

I never "got" this tobacco in the past and it always smoked hot and i got bitten every time i tried it. Then, one day at my pipe club, a buddy offered me a bowl, so i tried it again. It was nirvana! I don't if it was dried a bit or whatever, but i smoked it very very slowly and really enjoyed...
